Last Saturday night I was out near a place called Contos with Neal, Kirk and Christian. We got a few sunset shots but it was a pretty bland sunset despite promising to be anything but. Anyhow the real reason why we were there was to drink lots of beer……………………………. I mean to experiment with some night photography. It was an awesome night and I certainly got some really interesting photos out of it as well as getting really fit running around the rocks firing off the flash. Its certainly something I’d like to do again.

Hey Jamie yours is really cool too!!Looks or sounds like you guys had a great time.
mate I think I can see youranus pinging off that flash behind the trees. Nice clean image that mark III takes hey.
Hi Mel,
Thanks very much for that, it was stacks of fun and we all learnt something so it was really productive as well. I’m definitely keen to pursue some more of this sort of photography in the future.
Hi Christian,
That is the sun shining out of my ass, no flash involved. 😉 hehe.
dammit you people make me so jealous when you go out shooting in mobs… Where am i? No night of photography is complete without an annoying teen complaining about beer breath and preventing you drunkards from falling in the ocean.
Oh yeah great shot. i can never get stars right.
Hi Sean,
Thanks for the compliment. I’m sure we’ll all get to shoot together soon. We’ll have to line up another group shoot somewhere if there is enough interest.
Jamie
Nice shot mate ,
I whished my camera hadnt run out of battery by then . Will have to get another battery when i get the mark II 🙂
Very cool shot Jamie. You can really tell the difference with that beast of a camera you have. Lucky soul.
amazing details in the tree.
i didn’t think you could get it that sharp with this long a exposure.
must’ve been a still night too???
Live view Stephen, that beast of a camera jamie has has the a nice live view where you can dial in the exposure and then zoom in on a mouse *hole at 200 yards. Gotta get me a live view one day.
well when there is enough interest can i suggest the venue should be John Forrest National park?
Spooly i didnt know the mk3 has live view.
Hi Sean,
Spooly is correct the MkIII has live view.
Sean,
What are Hovea Falls like and are there any old railway bridges around there?
Jamie
Hi Stephen,
I can’t remember if there was any wind or not, I know it was damn cold and there were heaps of mossies!!!!
Jamie
Very Very Very cool shot mate….. so bloody sharp….. i wonder if my nikon can do that…… bloody canon ppl hahaha just jokes hahaha
Hi Clint,
Thanks for that, much appreciated. I must admit I was pretty surprised myself.
Jamie
Very nice shot Jamie. Contos is a great little spot. Great little surf spot and beach. The mozzies are killer though once the sun goes down.
Clint…. Your Nikon D300 does have live view. I have the same camera and use it from time to time. It really comes in handy for macro shots.
That’s sharp alright . I must try the live view on my 40d I’ve never even had a look at it.
The one I’ve posted on my blog is nowhere near it.
Jamie have a look it’s taken on the CSR.
( Cheap attempt to get a couple of hits there!!!)

Hi Luke,
Thanks for that mate. I’ll definitely be heading back down to Contos to try and capture it in some better light.
Jamie
Hi Merv,
I never used it until Neal and Christian asked me how to use it. I learnt how to use it and its revolutionised the way I shoot things. No problems about the free plug. hehe. We are all guilty of it. 🙂
Jamie
Yeah i knew i have live view mode, but i was wondering if mine would come out so bloody sharp hahaha….. whens the next shoot???….. was thinking of heading down south really soon
Weekend after next is good for me 😉
me and bree were talking about that weekend…….
wait the red bull air race is on that weekend… so maybe another weekend
Yes there are loads of falls and old railway bridges! They make for good monochrome.
That sounds good to me Clint
I’m going to down to the mends st jetty on Friday afternoon to capture the red bull air race. If anyone is interested in joining me then. You get the same action without the crowds.
