Cable Beach Reflections

broome, seascape photography, australian landscape photography, western australia, sunset

Cable Beach Reflections::  Cable Beach would have to be another firm favourite in places to visit.   It is quite simply amazing to watch the end of the day on this beach.   As the warm tropical sun sets it nearly always throws up a beautiful kaleidoscope of colours each and every evening.

I was lucky enough on this evening to be walking along Cable Beach just relaxing when I saw the water the reflecting the clouds and I had to capture it.  I’m glad that I did and working on it brings back great memories of that evening.

Thanks,

Jamie

Little Salmon Bay Rottnest

Little Salmon Bay Rottnest::  After spending time with the family all week, it was definitely time to sneak off by myself to get some solitude and quiet time with Mother Nature.

I was really attracted to this spot, Little Salmon Bay because of the bright green patches in the water.  It was like patch work quilt.   I spent about 2hrs in this little bay, shooting away and then it was time to put my camera down and just enjoy the place.

I sat down on the beach and felt the gentle winter sun heating me up.  I then just shut my eyes and listened, really listened to everything that was going on around me.

From the waves lapping at the beach, to the sound the wind made as scurried across the beach.  It was a truly relaxing experience.

Do you ever take time out to just listen to Mother Nature?

Thanks,

Jamie

Midddle of Nowhere

australian landscape photography, start photography, milky way

After a three hour drive to get away from Perth’s light pollution I ended up here and was totally blown away with just how many stars I could see.  I was able to see at least 30% more stars here than when I headed out to capture milky way shots with Paul Pichugin a few months ago.

I was trying out a new camera for the first time as well and the ISO sensitivity was unbelievable!   On one of my shots I kept getting an orange cast and I couldn’t work out why, after looking around it was a tiny orange light about 150M away that was illuminating a letterbox.

Eventually, I had to move on as Farmer Bob was swinging a spotlight around in one of the fields which didn’t bother me too much until I heard rifle shots.  I wasn’t sticking around to be mistaken for something that shouldn’t have been there.

Thanks,

Jamie

Inland Peace

Hi Everyone,

I captured this shot as I was making my way out to capture the Milky Way with Paul Pichugin a few weeks ago.   We were out on the Great Eastern Highway looking for a spot to stop and capture the sunset whilst on our travels out to our Milky Way destination.   It looked like pretty slim pickings, but just before sunset, about 5mins before we managed to spot this salt lake.

We grabbed our gear and ventured out into the middle of the lake and almost sunk knee deep into the mud a few times.   Though it was hard work getting out there it was certainly worth the effort.

Thanks,

Jamie

Gates of Hell

australian landscape photography, landscape photography, balingup nannup road, australian photographer, bush fires

Hi Everyone,

After driving around almost constantly for 2 days with Paul Pichugin I thought that we were done with taking photos.  I was shattered and just wanted to get home as were were still 2.5hrs away from Perth and it was late.

We hit the Balingup Nannup Rd as it was the quickest way home and as we did Paul turned to me and said ‘You know I’ve never managed to drive down this road without stopping for a photo”.  It was pitch black out there, surely there were no photo opportunities this time?

Well we drove around a corner and saw this amazing glow coming from up in the hills.  It was so intense that I really felt like I was staring directly into hell itself.  So Paul was right, we didn’t mange to make it down the road without stopping for a photo!

Thanks,

Jamie

Gantheaume Point Broome

broome, seascape photography, australian landscape photography, landscape photography, austrlian photographer

I’m really very proud of this shot.  Its a 15 shot panoramic photo of Gantheaume Point in Broome.  5 shots wide with 3 levels of focus stacking to ensure the photo was razor sharp throughout.

It was stinking hot when I took this shot, something like 35 degrees and it took close to 25mins to complete it.  I drove straight home after this and had the longest shower as I was soo sweaty!  Ewww!

No trip up to Broome would be complete without heading across to Gantheaume to check out the spectacular red colours.   Its a 5min drive out of town and I could spend literally hours shooting there.  Go at the right time of year and you can see dinosaur foot prints at low tide as well.  Very cool.

Thanks,

Jamie

Willie Creek Broome

broome, landscape photography, australian landscape photography, australian photographer, aerial photography

Every year when I head up to Broome my oldest son Xavier (3.5yrs) and I hop into the Willie Creek helicopter and go for a blast around the local area.  I have an amazing time taking the photos with him on my lap and he has a blast trying to touch all the buttons.

Fortunately, the pilots have infinite patience with him and they don’t seem to mind, until he presses the wrong button I guess.

I’ve managed to capture good aerial shots before but True North Mark passed on some great advice to me a few months ago when it came to settings so I tried them out and I was really happy with what I captured.  ‘Go high on the ISO son’ he said.

So I cranked the ISO up to 1000 and used TV priority of 1/1000th.  All my shots came out razor sharp!

Now an admission, my last post Lofty Heights wasn’t an aerial shot at all but a lump of salt beside the road.  That’s the great thing about photography, done right we can change people’s perceptions.

Thanks,

Jamie

Lofty Heights

aerial photography, karratha, australian photographer, australian landscape photography, north west photography

There is something truly magical about being in the air isn’t there?   Its like we are free and not shackled to our daily lives.  For that precious time that we are in the air we are free to soar above the world and see it from a totally different angle.

I’ve been thinking about flying lots lately and I really wish I could have the chance to hop into something like a U2 and fly up to 70 000ft.  The view from up there must be absolutely stunning.

Thanks,

Jamie

North Beach

seascape photography, australian landscape photography, landscape photography, australian photographer, sunset

Last weekend I manged to head out with Paul Pichugin to North Beach and boy did we have a blast.   This is probably my most favourite photo of the year so far.

Its amazing the sorts of shots you can drag amount for a seemingly small bunch of insignificant rocks if you present them in the right way.

I waited for awhile to get this shot as I want there to be sufficient water in front of the rocks to create some motion, whilst a wave was also crashing onto the rock itself.  As always patience pays off.

I hope you guys enjoy it and I’d love to know what you think of it.

Thanks,

Jamie

Bennion Beach Blaze

perth beaches, australian landscape photography, australian photographer, sunset

Wow, oh Wow!!!!   I came so close to not heading out tonight as I really didn’t think the sunset was going to be any good.  How wrong was I?  I decided to head out anyway to Bennion Beach, its a familiar spot and I feel grounded there.

I was trying out a few new in camera techniques, playing around when I saw the sunset start to really fire up.   Well off to work I went and I was blown away at just how intense, insane and amazing the sunset was.

So glad I went out tonight!

Thanks,

Jamie
