Lancelin Sand Dunes

lancelin sand dunes australian landscapes photos

Hi Everyone,

On Saturday I decided to take a drive up to the Lancelin Sand Dunes in the trusty Honda CRV.  Yes it can handle the dunes!   I really only got to spend 10mins up in the dunes as the wind was blowing that hard that I just got completely covered in sand.   It took me two days to wash all of the sand out of my hair, fortunately I had my trusty coles shopping bag over the camera to protect it.   Straight after this shot I headed down to the beach where I was able to find some cover and grab a few shots of the sunset.    It was so relaxing up there I could’ve easily just pulled up a swag and slept on the beach for the night.   Its not something I’ve done for ages and I really should do it again.

I’m really taken by this shot, I just love the complexity of it.   I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do.   Merv I might have to come out to your place and setup a tent for the night and ‘pretend’ to camp. 😉

Thanks Everyone,

Jamie Paterson

Recent Trip to Mars

viewfrommars

Recently I was fortunate enough to take a trip to Mars errrr or was that Lancelin?   I think the effect was the same.   This was shot on the same day that Neal, Kirk and I went up to Lancelin and went crazy and shot all the sand dunes.   The thing I remember the most about the trip was getting excited about all the sand dune effects but getting really stressed out at all the sand getting into my gear and car.   I think when shooting on the sand dunes a polariser is almost an absolute must to take the glare off the sand and look for lots of dark shadows as they can create some crazy patterns.    I also learnt as I went up the following week that if there is heavy cloud cover don’t even bother shooting the sand dunes as you get very little contrast because there are very few shadows.   Also you need a good plastic bag to cover your gear whilst you aren’t shooting so sand doesn’t ruin your gear.   I’d love to get out to the sand dunes near Eucla and try my hand at them, I know Beau took some pretty cool shots out that way.

Has anyone else got any cool sand dune shooting tips at all?

Fish and Chips

Hi Guys here is a little something I cooked up a few weeks ago at Cottesloe Beach.   Its a great spot to have some fish, wine and chips during summer.   I was experimenting with a Fisheye at the time so this is a single image.   The fisheye lens was stacks of fun and I was able to take some pretty funky photos, but I couldn’t justify paying a stack of money for ‘fun’.   One of the most impressive shots was standing at the carpark above Mitchell Rocks at Injidup and being able to shoot the entire bay.

Thanks must go to PRA Imaging for lending me the lens to toy with.

If anyone is keen to catch up this Saturday morning for a shoot let me know!

Jamie
