Simplicity

lancelin sand dunes, black and white, australian landscape photography, australian landscape photographer,

Hi Everyone,

This is another shot that I managed to get while tearing around in the Lancelin sand dunes the other night.   Beau and I were driving along in between some dunes when this scene opened up in front of us.   It caught our attention because of the simple composition that it presented, needless to say we both jumped out of the car and started to shoot away.   When you see shots like this appear in front of you, you just know that we landscape photographers have the best job in the world.  We had to use a number of light sources to get this shot as Mark Stothard didn’t leave any moonlight behind for us from his visit up there a few nights ago.   (Since posting this, I have lightened up the top left hand corner and it looks stacks better).

Hope everyone has a great long weekend!

Lancelin Sand Dunes

Hi Crew,

Its another weekend, time to get out there and shoot like crazy!    This photo was taken about two years ago and I’ve never really done much with it, however, with a few of the guys doing some black and white photos I thought I’d join the club.    Its so much fun shooting the sand dunes at Lancelin, they are forever changing and you always come back with something different.

When I took this photo it was blowing a gale as usual and I had to wait for a lull in the wind before rushing out of the car and setting up a shot.   I must have lost at least 5 kilos that day hopping out of the car and running up the dunes to setup for a shot and then run down the dune back into the car again.  Still it was heaps of fun.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Lancelin Sand Dunes

lancelin sand dunes australian landscapes photos

Hi Everyone,

On Saturday I decided to take a drive up to the Lancelin Sand Dunes in the trusty Honda CRV.  Yes it can handle the dunes!   I really only got to spend 10mins up in the dunes as the wind was blowing that hard that I just got completely covered in sand.   It took me two days to wash all of the sand out of my hair, fortunately I had my trusty coles shopping bag over the camera to protect it.   Straight after this shot I headed down to the beach where I was able to find some cover and grab a few shots of the sunset.    It was so relaxing up there I could’ve easily just pulled up a swag and slept on the beach for the night.   Its not something I’ve done for ages and I really should do it again.

I’m really taken by this shot, I just love the complexity of it.   I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do.   Merv I might have to come out to your place and setup a tent for the night and ‘pretend’ to camp. 😉

Thanks Everyone,

Jamie Paterson

More Sand Dunes?….. Ok

sanddune1

This is another shot from my day at Lancelin.   You just couldn’t go up there and take a bad shot, I’m sure its almost impossible.  Going to Lancelin was such a welcome change from our unfortunately lack lustre photographic opportunities in Perth this summer.   The only reason why I left was because I was getting tired otherwise I could’ve shot there all night.   Guys and ladies, you just have to get up there and have a go.   Lancelin definitely rocks!!!!

On another note don’t forget that Christian Fletcher’s exhibition is coming up soon.  Make sure you turn up to support an extremely talented West Australian Landscape Photographer.

Thank you for stopping by.

Trip to the Moon…….. or was it Lancelin?

sandunes1

Yesterday I spent an awesome day up at Lancelin with both Kirk and Neal.   We hit Lancelin at around 5pm and we just knew that we were going to have an awesome photography session.   After stopping off at the servo for some fuel and food supplies we took a quick look at the beach and then headed off into the sand dunes.   It didn’t take us too long to work out that if we were going to get out of the car we had to point it into the wind first, otherwise the car would just fill up with sand.   It took me two hours to get all the sand out today!!! :-)

Our biggest issue was that we had to watch out for other vehicles particularly motorbikes, and then secondly there were just so many dunes to photograph we didn’t know where to start, rest assured we tried to photograph every single one of them.   We didn’t leave until 10pm and we got to Neal’s at 11pm where he unselfishly gave me his only beer in the house, after being in the sand dunes all day that beer tasted so good.

I hope you enjoy this photo, I’ve got a stack more sand dune shots to come and I’m sure both Neal and Kirk do as well.

Thanks for visiting the blog.
