Altered Seascapes

seascapes, seascape photography, australian landscape photography, ships,

Hi Everyone,

I figured if Christian can have his altered landscapes then I can have my altered seascapes.  On my way down to Pt Perron last weekend I stopped off at lots of little beaches to see what I could find.   There really wasn’t any point to this photo other than, Wow, that is a really big ship so close to the shore and it looked kind of cool.

Watch out for more altered seascapes soon.

Port Beach Sunset

port beach, sunset, seascape photography

Hi Everyone,

Hope you’ve all had a great weekend so far.  This is a shot that I managed to get whilst out shooting with Mark last week.  It was such an intense and magical sunset, in fact probably the best I’ve seen in a long time.

It was one of those sorts of sunsets where I actually stopped shooting for a few minutes so that I could just take time out and enjoy it.   One the way home Mark and I stopped off and tried out another location that promises to provide us with a couple of great photos, unfortunately the light wasn’t right on the night but stayed tuned.  I’m sure either Mark or I will return there soon to have another crack at it shortly.

Thanks for stopping by guys,

Jamie Pateson

Como Jetty Tones

Como Jetty, australian landscape photography

Hi Everyone,

How awesome is weather that we’ve been having at the moment?   On Friday evening I thought I’d go for the tourist shot of Perth from the South Perth foreshore and once I got there I managed to spot a few good angles that I thought would be good at sunset.  It soon became apparent though that Mother Nature had other ideas and that the action was going to be elsewhere.

I hopped back into the car and headed across to Como Jetty to capture the sunset there instead.  Its funny because as I was driving down the freeway on my way to the city I had looked at the Como Jetty and said to myself that is the spot for tonight but I still continued onto the Perth foreshore.   It just goes to show that you should listen to your gut feeling!  Instinct is a powerful tool.

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend!   Now its time to hit the beach to see what I can get.

Thanks,

Jamie Paterson

Blackwall Reach Boats

blackwall reach, swan river, perth, fremantle, australian landscape photography

Blackwall Reach near Fremantle would have to be one of my more favourite spots on the Swan River.   Despite all the boat traffic going by its actually a very peaceful place to be.   Its also a pretty cool spot to go diving as there are stacks of boats sitting on the bottom here, bikes are down there and I’ve even found the remains of an old truck down here.

If you’re into prawn diving this is one of the best spots in the Swan River to get them.  Normally they are between 9M and 14M of water and on a good night you could easily bring in a kilo of prawns.   Perhaps one of the best things about this area is that its full of seahorses just below the surface.  I could almost guarantee that if you went for a snorkel or dive around here you would find at least one seahorse.

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend.  I certainly did.

Thanks,

Jamie Paterson

Reach For The Sky

Perth, Skyscraper, australian landscape photography, Western Australia

Hi Gang,

Last Saturday when I went into work I noticed there were some really cool clouds around.   You know the sort, really high, whispy and white and they looked so cool.   After staring at these two cranes for almost 12mths I finally decided to take a photo of them mainly because of the awesome clouds.

This was taken using my 70-20mm and handheld so I was pretty happy with the end result.   Did anyone else manage to capture those amazing clouds?

Cottesloe Beach

Cottesloe Beach, Cott, australian landscape photography, seascape photography, fine art landscape photography

Hi Crew,

I hope you’ve all had a great weekend.   Have I jumped on the black and white bandwagon with this shot?  Certainly not!   I see things in colour and in the past have converted the odd photo to black and white when the composition and light was good but the colour wasn’t.

In this case though I always saw this Cottesloe Beach shot in black and white for some reason, perhaps its because of Brett Morgan’s latest photos.  Either way I’m glad I saw this one in black and white as it really works.  Now should I rock Mark’s boat and do a third post for the day?  I think so.

Thanks,

Jamie Paterson

First The Good News

lancelin, lancelin sand dunes, australian landscape photography,

Actually there is no bad news, only good news.  A few months back the Utah Museum of Natural History contacted me as they wanted to use this image in one of their permanent displays.  I agreed of course and its good to know that after delivering the photo to them last week, it should be on display shortly for the many thousands of people who go there each year.

Thanks,

Jamie Paterson

Point Walter Jetty

Hi Everyone,

As most of you know last Saturday was an amazing afternoon to be out and about shooting.   I said to Mr ‘True North’ Mark that it was almost like there was two sunsets.  If you look at my previous post you’ll see the sky was all orange but in this post nearly everything is pink.   I was swinging from left to right getting orange sunsets and pink sunsets.  I can’t remember the last time I was able to do something like that!    I was even luckier with this shot as there had been people on this jetty all afternoon, but for a few minutes while the sky lit up there was no one on it.  Bonus.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Point Walter Sunset

sunsets, australian landscape photography, australian seascape photography, point walter, bicton

Hi Everyone,

Well I was lucky enough to be out and about like Markie Mark and Col of Birds Eye View Photography were on Saturday evening and managed to grab a few shots of the awesome sunset.   What a sunset it was, it was so colourful and it just lasted forever, I was shooting for at least 20mins and even had time to sit back and watch the view as well.   This place is called Point Walter and on a good day you can actually walk right out into the middle of the Swan River.  Pretty cool.

The sunset was that intense I had to use a couple of filters to try and stop it from overpowering the foreground!   All in all it was a fantastic evening and hopefully we’ll have another one soon.
