Boronup Forest

australian landscape photography, landscape photography, yallingup, margaret river, australian photographer

Hi Guys,

Its been ages since I’ve been down south and I was trawling through my down south images today when I came across this photo of Boronup Forest that I took whilst out with Mark Stothard last year.  I’ve tried doing a few different techniques to it and I quite like the way it turned out.

Hope you guys do to.

Thanks,

Jamie Paterson

Injidup Sunset

injidup beach, injidup, sunset, seascape photography, australian landscape photography

Another shot of Injidup Beach!   What more can I say about the place other than I love it and its magical.  On this particular evening the waves were just gently lapping at the beach instead of being hammered by the large waves that normally come through here like a freight train.

Just on the other side of the rocks were a large group of kids jumping into the water and swimming and splashing around, just having a great time.   Its good to see that I’m not the only one who recharges at Injidup.

I can’t wait to get down here during winter to capture some winter storms.

Thanks,

Jamie Paterson

Injidup Beach

Hi Everyone,

Now that the exhibition is over I have a bit more time to relax and head out and starting taking photos again.  It seems like ages since I last headed out on a photography adventure.   Now before I tell you about this photo please make sure you go and check out Andrea Green’s new blog and say hi.

This shot was taken August last year just as the sun was breaking.  There had been stacks of rain and I hadn’t managed to really pull off any shots at all so I decided to head over to my spiritual home Injidup Beach because it almost always delivers.   Well I definitely wasn’t disappointed, as the sun began to rise I was presented with this awesome stormy scene and the wet rocks were throwing up a great red.    The 1Ds copped an absolute soaking on this day and it still managed to deliver.

I really think its time to take a trip back down south soon and check out a few new areas that I managed to scout out just before Christmas and soak up the whole South West atmosphere again.  This photo was taken using F11, ISO50 with a 20sec exposure.

Have a great long weekend everyone,

Jamie Paterson

Ocean In Motion

seascape photographer, australian landscape photography, yallingup

Why is it that just standing in front of the ocean watching waves crash onto rocks is so calming?  Why is it so thought provoking?   Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Why do people feel so clean internally not just externally when they dive into the ocean?

The ocean, it really is a magic, mysterious entity.   Will I ever understand it?

Cape Naturaliste Sunset

Cape Naturaliste Sunset Yallingup Dunsborough Australian Landscape Photography

Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone had a great weekend, you can tell you live in a small city when everyone turns out to see a cruise ship turning up to Fremantle.  We were lucky enough to have the Queen Mary 2 turn up today for a few hours.  If you want to see some photos check out Clint Baker’s website.

This is another photo from my trip down south a few weeks ago.   By this stage the moon had risen and the mossies were trying to carry me off to where ever they come from.    Still I didn’t mind them too much as this place was just a photographic goldmine.   I stayed around for an hour after the sunset which meant I got some great photos but I unfortunately got lost on the way back to the carpark.

I climbed up the sand dunes that the surfers had and it was all good until I got to the top of the dunes.  The tracks just seemed to disappear and not lead to anywhere.   I had to start walking through the bush and it was really hot so I imagined there would be plenty of tiger snakes and dugites prowling looking for a meal and I was hoping that I didn’t step on one!   Fortunately I didn’t and I made it back to the car safely!

Thanks for checking my blog out and commenting,

Rainy Day at Bunker Bay

bunker bay Dunsborough Cape Naturaliste australian landscapes seascapes

Hi Everyone,

It was great catching up with so many talented Perth Landscape and Seascape Photographers on Friday night.  You guys rock!   Thanks again to Mark Stoddard and Christian Fletcher for organising it.

This was a shot I that I managed to grab around three months ago now whilst I was spending quite a bit of time out at Bunker Bay.    As you can see I managed to narrowly avoid a stack of rain heading across the bay.   In fact it was taken the day before I got totally rained out when I headed for a shoot at Meelup Beach.

I just really liked this shot because I thought that the tree dangling over the water was pretty cool.   It really made me wonder why a tree would grow that way rather than just straight up in the air.  That is the great thing about Mother Nature I guess, she is always creating interesting things for us landscape and seascape photographers.

Now that Summer is here I can’t wait for those amazing sunsets to kick in.  What about everyone else?   You guys hanging out for those amazing summer sunsets as well?

Thanks for dropping in team,

Jamie Paterson

Moments Like These – Injidup Beach

injidup beach australian landscape seascape long exposure

Hi Everyone,

Well when I was down south last weekend I only managed to get up early on the Saturday morning, I just couldn’t struggle out of bed on the Sunday morning no matter how hard I tried.   Saturday morning was one of those days that landscape and seascape photographers just live for!   I managed to get my previous shot of Meelup Beach and then 30min later this shot of Injidup Beach.   As I always say who says landscape photographers aren’t an extreme bunch?   I took this photo just before I got covered waist deep in water, I had to literally grab my camera and hold it above my head.   At least this time I didn’t lose a thong like I did at Bennion Beach.

What is the closest you’ve come to losing your camera?   I think my incident at Bennion Beach was the closest.

Hope you’re all having a great weekend,

Jamie Paterson

Bunker Bay Bonanza

bunkerbayrocks

Hi Everyone,

Photographically its been a quite week for me, though mid week I did manage to catch a glimpse of a beautiful sunrise and sunset and as I look out the window now I can see the softest pink sunset, very pretty.   I can’t wait for this coming weekend as I’ll be in a much warmer climate and spending four days shooting with Christian and Mike Fletcher.   A dream come true for me, I’ll have to show the boys a trick or two.   Also I have to say a big thank you to the person who made this possible for me, she knows who she is!

Bunker Bay Photo Details:

F16

ISO50

Shutter – 10secs.

I’d love to know who would your dream photographic mentor be if you could shoot with anyone?   Where would you love to shoot with them?

Finally, a big thank you to all of you for stopping by and taking the time to comment.  I trully appreciate it.

Three Degrees At Bunker Bay

bunkerbay

Hi Everyone,

How terrible has the weather been?   If you don’t live in Perth then you’re lucky we’ve had nothing but weeks of rain and bland grey skies.  I’ve forgotten what a great sunset or sunrise looks like.   A few weekend ago when I was staying down south at Yallingup I decided to head out to Bunker Bay to capture the sunrise, when I got there the car temperature was saying it was three degrees outside and it certainly felt like it!    The wind was coming straight off the ocean with a really light rain and I was shivering while taking this photo.    Soon after the rain increased and I had to retreat to the car which was a blessing in disguise.   I did what any normal person would do and headed into Dunsborough and got a nice Jumbo sized Mocha.

Is there anything better than a nice hot coffee when you’re cold?

I bet the rest of you guys are looking at the weather forecasts as well wondering when the good weather is going to start rolling in.  Its not nice taking landscape photographs in rain.

Thanks for stopping by,

Jamie Paterson

Stormy Yallingup Sunsets

yallingup sunset landscape seascape jamie paterson

Hi Everyone,

I managed to duck down to Dunsborough and Yallingup this weekend to chill out and capture some photos.   I must admit it was a pretty heartbreaking weekend as Friday evening was the only time I really managed to get a few shots.   I was totally rained out Saturday morning and Saturday evening and Sunday morning when I woke up I heard the rain just hammering down on the roof so I did what a normal person would do and went back to sleep and woke up at a decent hour!   This is probably one of my more favourite seascape photographs I just love the way the heavy cloud is hanging above the water, its so threatening and yes it did rain shortly after the photo.   Has everyone else had enough of this rain?    It seems this year we’ve had stacks of it but I read today that we are still under average!

Camera Settings:

F22

ISO50

Shutter – 1.6secs

This weekend I’m spending in Perth and hitting some local streams to see what they are like.   Does anyone else have anything special lined up?
