Hi Everyone,

We had an amazing sunset here last night, I hope you guys all managed to get out there and get some photos.   I managed to grab this shot before ducking around and shooting Point Walter as the sun was setting.  I promised myself no wave shots this weekend and at first I did end up down at North Cottesloe but I snapped out of it and headed back around to the Swan River.   I’m really glad I did the light was just amazing and everything came together just right.   Did anyone else manage to get out there and get some awesome shots?

Fremantle Harbour

aerial photography, fremantle harbour, australian landscape photography, australian seascape photography, ships

Shooting from air can be quite addictive.   Its a point of view many of us don’t get to see on a day to day basis, to look down and see the world ticking along doing its thing while you’re free in the air is a very cool feeling.   On my way out to Rottnest I got the pilot to transit over Fremantle Harbour so that I could grab some shots of the ships in the harbour.   I was actually really surprised to see a rowing boat in the harbour next to the ship when I viewed this photo at 100%.  Talk about brave!

If you’ve never shot from the air do yourself a favour and charter a helicopter and do some shooting!  Its heaps of fun.

Thanks,

Jamie Paterson

Port Beach Splash

Hi Everyone,
I srpung out of bed at 7:30am (instead of 5am like I was supposed to!) and decided to head down to the beach to have a dip and grab a few wave photos.  I’m so glad I did, it was beautiful.   Melissa and Xavier chilled out in the sand whilst I got some pretty cool shots as the waves were breaking onto the beach.   Its a shame that winter is fast approaching, there is nothing like waking up in the morning and heading off down to the beach.    Hope you guys are all enjoying the weekend so far.

Thanks for stopping by and checking my blog out,

Rippled Waves at Port Beach

australian wave photography, wave photographs, wave surf photography, jamie paterson photography, port beach, fremantle

Hi Everyone,

Well this is my first attempt at something a little different so hopefully you’ll be kind to me.   I’ve been memorised by wave photographs for years and I’ve finally taken the step and gone out and got myself an underwater housing.   I’ve been out twice this week and its so much fun, though I must admit I’ve been thrown around heaps in the surf and ended up with lots of scrapes from the sand.

Its just so refreshing to dive into the water and have a play around for an hour or so and then hop out and watch the sunset before heading home.     Clint Baker is also having a crack at this sort of photography as well so head over to his site to check his stuff out.

So will anyone else be joining Clint and I in the water?

I hope everyone is having a great and safe weekend!!!

Summer Stroll on Cottesloe Beach

cotteslesummer

Well it looks like everyone here is writing about Summer and how much they miss it and how close it now is, so I’d thought I’d post another photo of Cottesloe Beach.   This is another shot taken in summer, again it was a really warm night and after taking this shot I put my stuff into the car and then jumped into the water myself.   Its so relaxing being in the water late evening or night time, one of my favourite times to dive is at night.    Anyhow back to the main story, hurry up Summer and bring on some wicked sunsets.

Thanks for viewing and comments are appreciated!!!

Hi Crew,

How shocking has the weather been of late?   Its been hard to try and get out and about to get any decent photos in this weather!    This photo was taken last summer, it was a beautiful evening, there were lots of people strolling up and down the beach, with quite a number of people also still swimming.  Just think only a few more months and we’ll be back to that lifestyle again.  Woo Hoo!   There is nothing like taking seascape photos on a warm summer’s evening down at the beach.

Camera Settings:

F11, ISO50, 10secs.

Lens – Canon 24-70mm F2.8

What is everyone elses’ favourite time of year to shoot?

Thanks and please feel free to comment,

The Bicton Belle

bicton belle australian landscape seascape

Hi Everyone,

Quite a few months ago I met up with Mr Spool and we headed down to the river to take landscape photos.   Whilst we were walking we came across a yacht club so we decided to head in and see what we could come up with.   This old girl really struck me for two reason, she was a bright blue when everything else around her was white and that she was like a dignified old lady in amongst all the ‘new’ boats.   Its nice to see these old boats still out and about.   Even her name is such a nice name the “Bicton Belle”.

I hope everyone gets a chance to get out and about this weekend and capture some awesome shots.

Hope you Enjoy

Bennion Beach Streaks

bennion cottesloe trigg beach waves surf australian landscapes seascapes

Hi Everyone,

I managed to pick a wicked Saturday morning to go shooting down at Bennion Beach!    I started off down at Cottesloe Beach and then saw it was high tide so I worked my way up to Trigg Beach and then settled at Bennion Beach.   The surf was smashing through and the waves were coming in huge sets.   Just before I captured this shot I was lining it up when a freak wave came through and covered me up to my waist, I had to hold the tripod above my head to keep it dry.    I certainly felt like I was in an action movie instead of trying to capture a half decent seascape!     Unfortunately there was a casualty from the wave soaking (aside from wet tracksuit pants), I lost a saftey thong, fortunately I managed to put my camera into a safe spot and then had to wade back into the water waist deep again to rescue my thong.

I certainly got a lot of weird looks from people when I crawled back up to the carpark soaking wet with camera in hand.   Oh well, no pain, no gain.   I certainly think the shot was worth it, hopefully you guys do as well.

What is the craziest thing you’ve done to capture a photo?

Thanks for reading my post,

Subtle Sunsets and Silky Waves

sunset perth cottesloe australian landscapes seascapes jamie paterson

Hi Everyone,

I decided to take my new 16-35mm F2.8 lens out for a test run here on our fair beaches of Perth.    I knew the sunset wasn’t going to be a firey sunset and it was raining but I just knew I had to get down to the beach and try and capture a seascape with my new lens even though I didn’t have a filter adapter ring for it.   I got lucky and the moment I parked the car the rain stopped and held off and decided to be nice to me, in fact the rain held off until quite literally I had hopped back into the car, you can’t time it much better than that.   I think the photo turned out really well considering I didn’t have a filter available. :-)     This lens was sharp as a tack and I can’t wait to go inland and capture some great country and waterfall landscapes once the fields start turning green and once the waterfalls starting hammering down.

I’d also like to take the opportunity to thank James Knight-Smith who has been helping me out with some issues that I’ve been having, he is an absolute creative genius.   Thanks James!!!

On other news, welcome back to Perth Beau!

Has anyone else been out and about?   I’m guessing with all the really nice sunsets and sunrises over the past few weeks most of you would’ve.

Thanks for stopping by,

Sunday Evening Christmas Spectacular – 14th Dec 2008 @ 6:30pm

santa

Well its that time of the year for our annual Christmas Photography Spectacular!!!    Obviously all are welcome, kids, dogs, cats and yes even partners. :-)    It will be this Sunday the 14th of December 2008 and we shall meet at 6:30pm.    The idea is to just meet up and say hello to everyone before we discretely ask Clint to leave the party at 8pm so that we can capture a decent sunset.   Hopefully you can all make it, its been a fantastic photography year for all of us and we’ve all posted some amazing images so let’s celebrate that together.

Since most of us have met each other through our association with Christian he will be beaming down a special message via satellite TV dressed in a Santa suit (okay so this still has to be negotiated).

Anyhow it will be great to catch up the the Perth Landscape Photography Crew.

As for where?   Now that is a surprise and you’re going to have to checking back, the location will be posted in the next 24hrs.
