Cottesloe Beach @ 43 Degrees

Hi Everyone,

Its really rare for me to post an unedited landscape photograph but I just couldn’t help myself with this one.   I was down at Cottesloe Beach when it was 43 degrees and it was stinking hot!   It took me 10mins to get to the beach as I couldn’t park near Cottesloe as all the car parks were full.

This is a 10 stitch image of Cottesloe Beach.   If I didn’t have all my camera gear with me I would definetely have just jumped into the water myself.   Any way back to processing the image.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting everyone!

North Beach Seascape Photo Location

north beach perth cottesloe australian landscapes seascapes jamie paterson photography

Hi Guys,

The seascape location I shot on Friday night is certainly no secret and I’m quite happy to share for those interested.  :-)  This image shows you that the photo was actually taken at North Beach itself.   I just pulled up into the carpark above the beach and spotted the rocks.  From there I just walked down to the beach and in this image you can see where the rocks are.    I’d be really interested in some of you fellow Perth landscape photographers heading down there and taking some shots.  I’d love to see what you guys come up with.

Did anyone see the sunset tonight?  I wish I was down at Cottesloe Beach.

Anyone up for the challenge?   Head down to North Beach and come up with your own interpretation of the rocks and then post them on your blogs!

Now my next location I’ll have to keep secret…………… just joking.

Chat to you all soon,

Lancelin Sand Dunes Pt2

lancelin sand dune curves australian landscape seascape photography jamie paterson

Hi Everyone,

This is another photo that I manged to capture up at Lancelin last weekend.   As I said last weekend Lancelin with all its sand dunes is a landscape photographers dream.     I was going to head back up this weekend but with the lack of clouds I didn’t think it was a great idea.    I think this week I’ll be hitting the Perth beaches again like Trigg and Cottesloe to see what I can up with.

Did anyone get out of Perth this weekend and get some good photos?

Thanks for stopping by everyone.  All comments are appreciated.

Summer Stroll on Cottesloe Beach

cotteslesummer

Well it looks like everyone here is writing about Summer and how much they miss it and how close it now is, so I’d thought I’d post another photo of Cottesloe Beach.   This is another shot taken in summer, again it was a really warm night and after taking this shot I put my stuff into the car and then jumped into the water myself.   Its so relaxing being in the water late evening or night time, one of my favourite times to dive is at night.    Anyhow back to the main story, hurry up Summer and bring on some wicked sunsets.

Thanks for viewing and comments are appreciated!!!

Bennion Beach Streaks

bennion cottesloe trigg beach waves surf australian landscapes seascapes

Hi Everyone,

I managed to pick a wicked Saturday morning to go shooting down at Bennion Beach!    I started off down at Cottesloe Beach and then saw it was high tide so I worked my way up to Trigg Beach and then settled at Bennion Beach.   The surf was smashing through and the waves were coming in huge sets.   Just before I captured this shot I was lining it up when a freak wave came through and covered me up to my waist, I had to hold the tripod above my head to keep it dry.    I certainly felt like I was in an action movie instead of trying to capture a half decent seascape!     Unfortunately there was a casualty from the wave soaking (aside from wet tracksuit pants), I lost a saftey thong, fortunately I managed to put my camera into a safe spot and then had to wade back into the water waist deep again to rescue my thong.

I certainly got a lot of weird looks from people when I crawled back up to the carpark soaking wet with camera in hand.   Oh well, no pain, no gain.   I certainly think the shot was worth it, hopefully you guys do as well.

What is the craziest thing you’ve done to capture a photo?

Thanks for reading my post,

Perth Rock Party

north cottesloe australian landscapes seascapes sunset

Hi Everyone,

Last Saturday I managed to get out and about and capture this great seascape photo.    I was annoyed that I had to stay in Perth for the long weekend and wasn’t able to go away, I was planning on going down to Dunsborough or Yallinup to capture more landscapes.   After seeing this unfold before me I was stoked that I didn’t go down south after all.   It was fantastic light that just seemed to stay around for ages and amazingly the ocean was so still that I was able to stand right on the edge of the reef without fear of getting my camera wet.  Have to be happy with that!!!

Sunday is going to be heaps of fun I’m flying up to the North West Shelf with a VIP and hoping into a helicopter and flying around to a couple of offshore installations so I’m going to be ‘happy snapping’ like crazy, it would be great if I could pull off some awesome aerial shots of us landing on some offshore installations.  Fingers crossed.

What is everyone else getting up to this weekend?   Any great photography plans?

Have a great weekend everyone,

Cottesloe Beach – Naturally

cottesloebeach

Well as most of you know Neal from Spool Photography and I went down south and managed to capture some absolutely magnificient light.   However, on Sunday I decided I wanted to simplify things and experiment and to try take a shot that required no Photoshoping what so ever.   I wanted saturated colours, slightly blurred water movement, not a great deal and yet still have a sharp image.   I think I came pretty close.   I had to do some creative cropping but that is it.

So how did I do it?    Firstly, I utilised a Hoya 5 stop ND filter to ‘slow’ things down in other words to allow me to leave the shutter for longer, I figured that would blur my water movement and alllow the colours to really soak in.    Then I put on a polarising filter to take some of the glare away from the subject.  In reality this would allowed me to have the shutter open even longer.

You can buy filters from Singh Ray that do the same thing now but as I said I was just tinkering / experimenting.   I think I got pretty close to my objective, which was to produce a decent shot in camera that required almost no Photoshopping.

I notice that a lot of other people are trying to simplify their photography.  What are some of the steps that you are taking to simplify your photography.   I’m guessing Lightroom will be mentioned heaps.

As there was only one bikini shot request I’m afraid I’ll have to archive the photo. :-)

Thank You for visting my post.

Cottesloe Beach Blues

cottpylon1

Hi Everyone,

This is a shot I took a few weeks back whilst down at Cottesloe Beach I really like the POV on this photo, oh and the blues as well in the water.    I’ve been working Cottesloe Beach heaps lately as I’m trying to get the ultimate tourist shot but the light here in Perth really doesn’t seem to be firing up at all, this is supposed to be the time of the year when we get wicked sunrises and sunsets.  Perhaps we could all chip in and buy Clint a ticket to the East Coast for a week so that we can get some decent light. 😉

Enjoy

Same, Same but Different

cottgroyne

Hi Everyone,

Went down to Cottesloe Beach last Friday night and caught up with Mel, unfortunately the sunset didn’t fire up and all the promising clouds disappeared just as the sun was setting.  Typical of Perth!    Before we left we thought we’d jump the fence and snap a couple of shots of the south side of the groyne.  I thought it was pretty cool.   I posted this because its a shot of exactly the same spot at exactly the same time but the scene was interpreted differently by Mel and I.   That is the great thing about photography, no one sees the same thing, the same way.

Hey Mel thanks for the great company.

Enjoy.

Fish and Chips

Hi Guys here is a little something I cooked up a few weeks ago at Cottesloe Beach.   Its a great spot to have some fish, wine and chips during summer.   I was experimenting with a Fisheye at the time so this is a single image.   The fisheye lens was stacks of fun and I was able to take some pretty funky photos, but I couldn’t justify paying a stack of money for ‘fun’.   One of the most impressive shots was standing at the carpark above Mitchell Rocks at Injidup and being able to shoot the entire bay.

Thanks must go to PRA Imaging for lending me the lens to toy with.

If anyone is keen to catch up this Saturday morning for a shoot let me know!

Jamie
