Parker Point Waves

parker point rottnest island australian landscape photography seascape

Hey Everyone,

Here is another shot I managed to get while flying over Parker Point at Rottnest Island.  This point nearly always has some swell thumping against it.  Its actually really cool watch waves hit the coast from the air they seem to move completely different up in the air.  We are so used to seeing them rise up and crash against the shore when we are at the beach.  In the air you can see parts of the wave getting slower and the wave getting thinner before it hits the coast.

Not too far from here is an amazing dive spot called Crystal Palace.  It is like a series of mini caverns that covers a large area and if you get the right day with no particles in the water it feels like you are just floating in mid air.

Thanks for reading and commenting guys,

Jamie Paterson

      Hey James,

If it wasn’t so expensive it would be a pretty cool way to photography most things.

    Hi Jamie,
Pretty cool Jamie, Rottnest is a much better place to see from a heli rather than riding a bike around! Keep posting some more, did you get Fish Hook & The Basin?

    Regard’s, Col.

      Hey Col,

Its nothing on what you do but it was fun. We had a limited budget which as you know equaled limited air time. We went out to Parker Point then across to Geordie Bay, Longreach and Fays Bay, then over to the lakes and then over Thompsons bay on the way home. We are going to hop into a helicopter again but we won’t be covering Rotto again. It will be of Cott and some of the Swan.

Must have been a tight budget if you couldn’t spare 5 min to get out to the west end, what machine did you use? Also, burn-off season is on so best to avoid aerial work for the next few weeks otherwise you’ll dump a heap of money on wasted flights into the smokehaze – I lost a heap of money on wasted flights last year so decided to sit it out for awhile this year, essential flights only.

      Hi Col,

We probably could’ve headed out that way but we stuck to the game plan. We were in the R44 and I was actually surprised at how smooth the ride was, we had James as our pilot. So what are you doing with yourself at the moment then if you aren’t flying? We should do a sunset shoot sometime this week.

44’s actually have quite a smooth ride and in the right hands are very good for filming as well, especially when there’s little or no wind. I’ve still got a few client flights to do, just have to hang around till it clears up enough – have a couple this week, I just won’t be doing any of my personal stuff for awhile and definitley won’t be heading down south!
Just looked at the forecast and there’s no good cloud forecast for this week to do landscape images – maybe Saturday?
Haven’t heard of James, I’m assuming you didn’t use Heliwest?

      Hi Col,

Weekend would suit me for a shoot. We did use HeliWest. James apparently has been doing the Albany joyflights and has just recently moved up here.
