Drama At The Basin

The Basin, Rottnest Island, Rotto, sunset, australian landscape photography, australian seascape photography

Same place different point of view.   The Basin at Rottnest Island has just so many angles that you can take photos from, I’m sure I could spend another few days hitting this spot without getting bored.   My main focus in this photo wasn’t surprisingly the clouds, they were a great bonus.   The real attraction for me in this photo was the little sandy channel running through the reef and out into the basin itself.  It actually struck me that in all my years of going to Rottnest I’ve never been swimming here.  Weird!

This has been created by using two vertical photos stitched together using my 16-35mm lens.   As always I hope you guys enjoy it.

Thanks,

Jamie Paterson

Great shot Jamie…and you need to get out there with a mask and snorkel mate…it is one of my favorite swims at Rotto. I swim from Longreach through the basin to Thompsons and back quite often!

      Hi Mark,

I’ll let you know when I’m heading over there again. Maybe we can do the snorkel together? I want to get some cool half in and half out of water shots from that area.

I don’t think I swan there either but then I’ve only been once 🙂 Gorgeous scene, can I repeat my comment??? Crop a bit of the bottom 🙂

Nooooo lol. Artistically that channel of sand is important to me. Its what drew me to that spot to shoot. You know I appreciate the feedback though. 🙂

It won’t be long and you won’t have to ask mate…coz I’ll be there every weekend just about!

In summer I could change my Avatar from True North Mark..to True Rottnest Mark!

Mmmm I wish. Melissa and I are waiting until the boys are a bit older before we buy a boat. In the meantime I’ll just tease myself with a couple of day trips this summer.

Mate…my kids grew up on boats and at Rotto!

It is the best place for kids to be…outdoors exploring, swimming, fishing etc.

    Get a boat I say!

At 3mths and 23mths? I’d be too worried that they would fall over the side when we weren’t looking. We are happy to wait a couple of more years.

i very much like how the white sand leads your eyes through the water to the trees, then the sky grabs you
    it’s great

Hi Jamie, Nice one but I think I agree with Flemming about the sky or maybe you could enhance the foreground a little more. Were you using a Polariser at all?

      Hi Tim,

Thanks mate, no I didn’t use a polarizer on this at all. Melissa and I are talking about heading up to the Whitsundays next year. 🙂

Nice shot however i feel some of the clouds are too dark and are just shadows…. and i agree with flemming about the crop but i would crop some clouds out cause i like the forground a lot! 😀
If you ever have another day trip planned over there let me know I really wanna shoot over there soon!

      Hey Dylan,

I’ll probably head back over there when I get back from Tassie, Sydney and CF country! I’ll give you a shout.
