Magic Day

landscape photography, seascape photography, myalup, bunbury, australian landscape photography

Its a great to be alive.  Any day we are alive is a great day!

Wow.  I’ve had the most amazing past couple of days.  I headed down to Balingup to capture some of the countryside and then spent the day driving across to Nannup, stopping every couple of minutes to take some shots and soak up the views.   I also made it across to Hamelin Bay, Margaret River and stayed in Dunborough as well.  Its been heaps of fun.   Today I started making my way home and I decided that I would stop off at as many beaches as possible as I’ve never done that.

This is Myalup Beach and it was a really cool little beach.  Nice waves crashing onto the shore line with fantastic weather.   Its been ages since my last photography roadtrip and it certainly reminded me of how much fun they are.

Roadtrip anyone?

Thanks,

Rippled Waves at Port Beach

Hi Everyone,

Well this is my first attempt at something a little different so hopefully you’ll be kind to me.   I’ve been memorised by wave photographs for years and I’ve finally taken the step and gone out and got myself an underwater housing.   I’ve been out twice this week and its so much fun, though I must admit I’ve been thrown around heaps in the surf and ended up with lots of scrapes from the sand.

Its just so refreshing to dive into the water and have a play around for an hour or so and then hop out and watch the sunset before heading home.     Clint Baker is also having a crack at this sort of photography as well so head over to his site to check his stuff out.

So will anyone else be joining Clint and I in the water?

I hope everyone is having a great and safe weekend!!!

Quindalup Stormy Skies

Hi Crew,

Well this is officially my last post for the year.  Can’t believe its gone so incredibly fast.  Again I hope you all party safely and I can’t wait to catch up with you all in the New Year.

This shot was taken at Quindalup boat ramp with Mark.  As you can see the skies were really going off this particular afternoon.    I’ve got heaps more shots from Sugarloaf Rock and Wyadup Rock from this evening but of course I’ll post them in the new year.

See you next year everyone,

Jamie Paterson

Dunsborough Summer Storms

Hi Everyone,

I’m back in Perth for New Years Eve.  It wasn’t the plan but things change unfortunately.   Anyhow I had a fantastic time down south even though it was short.   Melissa, Xavier and I were treated to a wonderful afternoon by Mark at True North Ashore.  He was an amazing host and all three of us had a great time there.   Folks, if you want a romantic weekend in beautiful Eagle Bay with your partner or just want to get away with the family, you can’t go past True North Ashore.   It even has a little creek with rocks from the Kimberley running through the middle of the house and the master bedrooms are just amazing.   It made it hard for us to go back to our humble little caravan!   Thanks for a great afternoon Mark.

This shot is from a shoot that Mark and I did on Tuesday.   It was extremely still and humid that day and we decided to head out to Quindalup before heading over to Injidup Beach.   It was the weather that landscape photographers just die for.   The skies were dark and moody yet the sun was sneaking through and highlighting all the colours in the plants.   Just standing back and looking at it all was so cool, its times like these I realise I’m fortunate to be able to take Australian landscapes.

I hope you all have a fantastic and safe New Years eve tonight and that 2010 is a great year for each and everyone of you.

Thanks,

Jamie Paterson

Injidup – A Photographers Playground

injidup photographers playground seascape landscape long exposure

Injidup Beach would have to be a landscape or seascape photographers playground.  There are just so many dimensions to it and it has so many angles and moods.  I just love it.   This shot was taken just before I got soaked whilst shooting at some other rocks on the beach.   Now just because I know Chloe is going to ask:

Aperature – F22

ISO – 50

Shutter Speed – 1/13sec.

Now that the weather is warming up I’m really hoping that we’ll start to see some colour in our sunrises and sunsets.   I’m hoping to spend some time over at Rottnest and the Stirling Ranges soon to try and capture some great shots.    Anyone else planning any trips away soon?

Thanks for stopping by everyone,

Jamie Paterson

Tropical Waters

varanuswater1

Geez I was all set to have a relaxing weekend but with Merv ‘motivating’ me I’ve had to put up another photo.   This photo was taken after watching internationally famed seascape artist Larry Mitchell peering into the water, I stood next to him and saw this in front of me.  I absolutely loved the water in the shallows it makes a great effect and I was really happy with this photo.   I just goes to show you don’t have to hang out with photographers to learn more about photography.   The way Larry ‘saw’ water was amazing and I know Christian learnt from him as well.

I’m thinking that I might have to retire to a coral island somewhere and ‘study’ water for the rest of my life.    What do you guys think?  I’m not sure if I could keep up with the pressures of work of being a seascape photographer on a coral island. :-)

Keep Dreaming!

Thanks for stopping by everyone,

Jamie Paterson

Three Degrees At Bunker Bay

bunkerbay

Hi Everyone,

How terrible has the weather been?   If you don’t live in Perth then you’re lucky we’ve had nothing but weeks of rain and bland grey skies.  I’ve forgotten what a great sunset or sunrise looks like.   A few weekend ago when I was staying down south at Yallingup I decided to head out to Bunker Bay to capture the sunrise, when I got there the car temperature was saying it was three degrees outside and it certainly felt like it!    The wind was coming straight off the ocean with a really light rain and I was shivering while taking this photo.    Soon after the rain increased and I had to retreat to the car which was a blessing in disguise.   I did what any normal person would do and headed into Dunsborough and got a nice Jumbo sized Mocha.

Is there anything better than a nice hot coffee when you’re cold?

I bet the rest of you guys are looking at the weather forecasts as well wondering when the good weather is going to start rolling in.  Its not nice taking landscape photographs in rain.

Thanks for stopping by,

Jamie Paterson

Summer Stroll on Cottesloe Beach

cotteslesummer

Well it looks like everyone here is writing about Summer and how much they miss it and how close it now is, so I’d thought I’d post another photo of Cottesloe Beach.   This is another shot taken in summer, again it was a really warm night and after taking this shot I put my stuff into the car and then jumped into the water myself.   Its so relaxing being in the water late evening or night time, one of my favourite times to dive is at night.    Anyhow back to the main story, hurry up Summer and bring on some wicked sunsets.

Thanks for viewing and comments are appreciated!!!

Kaboom!!! Injidup Waves Explode

injidup waves surf australian landscapes seascapes

Hi Everyone,

I was lucky enough this weekend to slip away down to Dunsborough for Thursday night, Friday and Saturday and it was absolutely awesome down there.   Friday night saw me at Wyadup Rocks capturing some awesome seapscapes, though when I turned around I saw that all the colour in the sky on the otherside of the cape.  Typical!!!   :-)  Friday night I went down to Canal Rocks and found some interesting areas that I hadn’t investigaged before and on Saturday morning I snuck down to Bunker Bay and had a blast.   The light was fairly subtle all weekend but the conditios wee still pretty good.   All in all it was a great couple of days.

This wave photograph was taken down at Injidup, the swell was huge and I mean scary huge and they were just exploding against the rocks, so much so that you could feel the rocks actually shaking.    It just makes you remember that the sea is such a powerful force.

What were the conditions like here in Perth?   Did anyone get out and about at all?

Thanks for stopping by,

Jamie Paterson

Bennion Beach Streaks Pt 2

bennion trigg beach waves surf seascape landscape

Hi Everyone,

Saturday morning saw me down at Bennion Beach once again trying to capture water movement.   I got lucky as there was some big waves that came thundering through which made it easy to capture the water movement that I was after.   I’m stoked as well because this time I didn’t get soaked up to my waist by a rogue wave!   Afterwards I drove down to Trigg Beach to watch all the guys surfing and getting thumped by the huge surf.   I think I could easily do another three of four shoots at this beach to capture all the angles I’m after. :-)

What did everyone else capture this weekend?
