Last weekend when I was down south with Kirk and Neal we were driving around and decided to turn down a dirt track. We drove for about 4 minutes before is started getting a little too rough for their cars, so they transferred all their gear into my car and we continued our trek to nowhere. It started to get a little rougher and fortunately for us a local stopped to give us some advice about the track getting pretty boggy ahead. To that person thank you so much!
We kept on driving and got to the boggy section and managed to drive around it using the directions of the local. After a few more minutes we made it to the beach and were really impressed with what we saw. I believe we ended up spending around four hours there. Its a shame the sky was so grey and boring.
On the way home about halfway down the track we came across a Pajero stuck fast in the boggy section and it wasn’t going anywhere. Kirk and I helped out by trying to dig the car out whilst Neal ensured that one of the members of the Pajero team was safe and sound. I’m sure she was very appreciative. 🙂
Anyway we couldn’t get them out and they were prepared to camp there the night and wait for a proper 4WD in the morning. So not only did we get some photos but we had an adventure as well.

Im guessing this was taken on Boranup Beach and you entered via the northern track??? Of course…it could be anywhere down there but it just looks and sounds “familiar”. I bet the Paj still had its tyres at 35PSI 😉
As for the pic, I really like the lighting in the foreground set against the angry sky…was this a HDR image or some savage grad filter use (or just a skill set I dont have…)?

Yep the tyres were still rock hard. I can’t remember the beach name but its definitely not Boranup Beach. 🙂

Sounds like it was a great trip mate!
I think the sky is too dark in this one and i would consider cropping it down to a square format (since you have all them pixels) to raise the horizon. I would also add a vignette to really direct the attention to the rocks.
Having said all that I think this is a great image, but it could just do with a few tweaks 😉

I really have to agree with you, the sky wasn’t quite right but it just seemed that no matter what I did it wasn’t right, so I released it for comment. I’m going to tinker with it more this weekend, I’ve only just started working on skys in photoshop so this will be good practice.

I’d also pull a little yellow out of the sand Jamie, and maybe remove the black sky altogether and just add a multiply to the sky area or soft light layer. Maybe tone down the exposure over the water and rocks to bring out a little more texture …

I like the shot Jamie. It really lights up my monitor. The smooth sand foreground contrasts well with the rocks. The colours are great too.

and you do have to laugh at these people who wonder why they can’t get through sand on full tyre pressure! but half of those vehicles are only used to driving kiddies to school and shopping back home… 😛

My beast is not a beast its a Honda CRV!!! hehe. I’ve never been bogged in it though as I know my limits and whenever I hit the beach i ALWAYS let my tyres down.
